Spring
Foundling Party
Pizza, paint, plants and chocolate! That’s how St. John’s
welcomed 7 children plus 4 staff from the NY Foundling on
Saturday, April 5.
The kids ranged from 4 to 11. Many had been here to make crowns
at Epiphany and masks at Halloween. Hadja and Samantha were
the oldest. Ellen Wagner helped Josie/Jessica celebrate her
upcoming 9th birthday with a special cupcake. There were only
2 boys—James and Adam. And the 2 youngest girls were
both named Anaya!
Bruce Colin, artist and retired teacher, helped the kids create
wonderful murals from simple cutout shapes, plus lots of glue
and markers. Their art decorated the parish hall and common
room and will be taken back to the Foundling this week. Each
child had its own personal panel. The children were entranced
by Bruce's pictures of wildlife photographed in
Africa and India—tigers, elephants, monkeys and birds.
Rosie and Ralph O’Shansky supplied wonderful desserts.
Richard Lipscomb took photos for our bulletin board and to
send to the Foundling. Maureen Crowe, Jeanne Sutton, Ellen
Wagner and Pam Brown helped keep the glue flow to a minimum.
Margot Shields’ dogs, Pierre and Val, were welcome diversions.
The kids also took home flower seeds they planted to celebrate
the season.
