Vestry Changes: Walter Zimmerman, who is now working in Philadelphia, resigned from the Vestry in January. Parish by-laws provide that Vestry resignations be reported at the next stated meeting of the Vestry after receipt by the Clerk of the Vestry of written notice of resignation and take effect on acceptance by majority vote of the Vestry. Since Walter’s resignation was not received in time to be acted on at the December Vestry meeting, this vacancy could not be filled by election at the Annual Parish Meeting. At its February 21st meeting, the Vestry elected Jay Campbell to fill Walter’s term, which expires at the January 2005 APM. We thank Walter for all his hard work and service, and welcome Jay back on the Vestry.
Correction: Last month we reported here that budgetary considerations had forced us to stop paying for parish subscriptions to the Episcopal New Yorker. We apologize for this error. The Episcopal New Yorker is sent free of charge to all parishioners in this diocese. It is parishioners’ subscriptions to Episcopal Life, the monthly publication of the national Church, which will be paid for this year due to the generosity of an anonymous parishioner!
Why does it take so long to post the minutes of the Vestry meetings? The Minutes must be approved at the next Vestry meeting following. Thus, the minutes from the February 21st meeting will be circulated prior to the March 20th meeting, any needed corrections will be offered at the meeting, and the Vestry will vote to accept the minutes as corrected. The Clerk of the Vestry makes any needed corrections, signs the Minutes report, and puts it in the corporation minutes book. A copy is then posted on the parish bulletin board. [And by request, the posting has been moved to a lower position on the board, so that it can be more easily read.]
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper: The First Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper was a lot of fun. We enjoyed meeting newcomers from both the 8am and 11am services and the kids from the Tuesday Street Youth. Lots of people contributed both time, talent, and treasure. Special thanks to Suzanne Culhane who flipped pancakes, Fred Pattison who cooked sausages, Lorraine Burns and Nancy Warfield who took tickets and wrote name tags, and Jay Campbell who contributed the Mardi Gras beads.
Feast of the Annunciation (March 25) Reception: Following the 6:30 p.m. Eucharist on Thursday, March 25th for the Feast of the Annunciation, there will be a reception in the Common Room. Pam Brown and Margot Shields will coordinate the refreshments, and welcome any offers of help.
Wardens’ Conference: Pam Brown and Margot Shields will
attend the Diocese’s Annual Wardens’ Conference, which will be held
on Saturday, March 27th at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Yonkers. The
all-day program will include meetings with Bishops Sisk, Roskam, and Taylor,
and workshops on congregational development, finance, property management, and
ministry development.
