People Here and There

It has been a cool spring, but it seems to be warming up. Everyone says the trees and the flowers have been beautiful.

Parishioners are making their travel plans. Dr. Robert White will be on a trip to China and Tibet in June including Singapore, Beijing, and other towns, as well as a boat trip. After Tibet, he will spend several days in Hong Kong. Before he begins his summer job, Dan Weick will fly to Cleveland, Ohio to join his parents on a trip to an island in Hawaii where they stay at his grandfather's house up on a latent volcano. Dr. Cherian Thomas will attend a conference in Lumubashi, Congo for a week in June....Alan Kanen and John Wulff will spend four days in Budapest in an apartment only two blocks from the opera house. In Prague their apartment is near the Charles Bridge. In Berlin they will stay with friends who live on Nollendorf Platz. In Paris, they will live further from the center of town in a charming hotel in a beautiful area....Suzanne Culhane visited her twin sister Deb in Philadelphia....Jeanne Sutton is going to see her sister, Yvonne, in North Fort Myers, Florida and to celebrate her brother-in-law's 85th birthday on June 8th....On the weekend of May 18th, Robert Agee, Scott Carlton, Bruce Goerlich, Rchard Lipscomb, Father Lloyd Prator, and Jeanne Sutton attended a silent retreat at Holy Cross Monastery. Brother Larry led the retreat on spirituality and the rule of St. Benedict. We shared some of our experiences. It was relaxing and meaningful....Andrew Gillett who works for American Express and Jeanine Daly, a resident in dermatology went to a wedding in Bally, Pennsylvania over memorial weekend. Scott Carlton spent Memorial Day at Sag Harbor. He also plans to go to the Poconos for a spiritual retreat in early June. Dogs Jackie and Lee look forward to coming back to St. John’s if there is food ... Bruce Goerlich plans to go to Greenville, South Carolina for his step-mother’s 80th Birthday.

On Trinity Sunday and the Sunday afterward, St. John's enjoyed visitors: the Rev'd Samuel Cross' mother Anne Cross from Collierville, Tennessee.; Jeanne Morrow from Pennswood Village, Newtown, Pennsylvania.; Rev'd Bruce Duncan and his wife, Ruth who have retired to Williamstown, Mass. (2 miles from Vermont and 5 miles from N.Y.)....and Barbara and Bill Hutchinson from GTS.

Congratulations to Barbara Hutchinson who starts in August as Assistant to the Rector at St. Stephens Church in Port Washington, Long Island, N.Y....The Rev'd Dr. Richard Corney will teach a summer course at General Theological Seminary called, "The Bible through the Centuries."
