Report
In 2008 the choirs sang for the usual Sunday services
and extra occasions such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday,
Holy Week, and Corpus Christi. In addition, both choirs
participated in the Lessons and Carols service which
was held in the afternoon of December 14. In June the
choristers were part of a joint Evensong service held
at St. Bartholomew’s parish.
In May and November St. John’s choir sang masses
by Schubert and Mozart, respectively, as part of the
Sunday Eucharist. The choir was accompanied by a string
ensemble.
In December a concert was presented in the church by
Schola Cantorum on Hudson. The program consisted of
music for the Advent and Christmas seasons.
Many thanks to Douglas Smith and Andrew Jones who served
as cantors for various services during the year when
a choir was not present.
Currently there are ten singers in St. John’s
choir and five choristers who come weekly for music
instruction and singing. The choristers sing once each
month during the school year in a Sunday morning service.
I am very appreciative of the support given to the music
program by Father Prator and the vestry. Once again
I praise the enthusiastic singing from the congregation
in our services. It is a joy to accompany hymns when
singing of this caliber takes place
