Schubert Mass - Sunday, May 11

at the 11:00 am service

On Pentecost Sunday, May 11, the choir will offer Franz Schubert’s Mass in G as the Ordinary of the mass. The music was composed for choir, soloists, strings, and organ. Schubert’s second mass, it was composed for a parish church near Vienna. It has become one of the most popular settings from the Viennese Classical period. It is a simple work in that there is no counterpoint – only harmonic writing. The charming melodic writing is typical of Schubert’s style as found in his songs, of which he wrote over 600. Soloist will include Anne MacNaughton, Mary Ellen Assue, Sal Diana, and Michael Conwill.
