The Story of

Abraham

Wednesday Evenings at 7:00 pm
in the Parish Hall
January 9, 16 & 23, 2008

Abraham is our father in faith. As one of the patriarchs of the Old Testament, he is the figure most often referred to as the figure whose relationship to God most exemplifies what it means to have faith. His relationship with God is articulated in terms of a sacred covenant which plays a significant role in both Judaism and Christianity. In these three sessions we shall examine the traditions in Genesis concerning Abraham, seeing what they can tell us about him, both as historical figure and literary figure. We shall then look at how these traditions about Abraham are used by later writers in both the Old and the New Testaments.
