People Here and There

by Jeanne Sutton

It is an early Easter this year with Ash Wednesday on February 6th. Although it is a short month, even with leap year, February has a lot of holidays including Black History Month.

On February 17th, St. John’s celebrated black history with native foods of the South and some of the Caribbean Islands. We want to thank the cooks: Fernella and Owen Lewis, Richard Lipscomb, and Rosemary and Ralph O’Shansky for the delicious meal. Rosemary’s son Vincent Gillis brought four of his pupils from the Bronx to the feast and to learn some of their history. Catching up on some past travels, Pat Thompson flew out to Palm Springs, California after Christmas to see the Rev’d Clark Trafton and Lewis Kerman. In mid-January, Jeanne Sutton visited a friend at Foulkways in Gwynedd, Pennsylvania. They went to the Museum of Archeology in Philadelphia. Around the end of the month, Pamela Brown will go to Chicago to see her mother Pearl and the two of them will drive to see Aunt Violet and maybe to Wisconsin to see the new grandchild of Pam’s brother. Cherian Thomas is on the road again. His first stop is Geneva, Switzerland and next is Katmandu, Nepal. Kalindi is in India where Cherian will join her ... Over Holy Week, the Rev’d Deacon Mary Gregorius and husband Hal will be joined by their son, Jason.

Happy Birthday to: Jared Stamm, Andrew Brimmer, Arlander Brown, Tina Barth, Adelaide Richter, Pat Thompson, David DePorte, Kelli Taylor, Laury Cuddihy, Andrew Jones, Clark Trafton, and all who celebrate birthdays in March.
