St.
John's Church School
began its 2003-2004 year
on Sunday, Sept. 28
"Living
the Good News"
Youth between the ages of
5 to 9 are welcome every Sunday.
No advance registration is necessary.
After the opening hymn at the 11 a.m. Eucharist,
the children are invited to join their teacher at the baptismal
font. They then proceed to the classroom with their teacher
where they stay for instruction during the sermon, the creed,
and the prayers of the people, about 25 minutes.
The children are
brought back to Church during the Peace -- the greeting in
the midst of the liturgy -- and rejoin their parents.
Baptized children
are welcome to receive holy communion.
The children's
curriculum is based on the lectionary, so they learn, at their
own level, the same things that adults are picking up from
the Sunday readings.
The children
can:
- Learn basic Bible stories and church traditions
- Be prepared to think about religious faith and
customs
- Know the love of God and the experience of community
- Experience an inclusive worshipping community
We offer:
- Arts and crafts
- Singing and other Music
- Experienced teachers and leaders
Our two parish deacons,
Anne
Auchincloss and Luigi
Licari, do the teaching. Since teaching
is an important part of diaconal ministry, and our deacons
both have experience working with children, we will begin
the Church School program by taking up their offer to provide
leadership in this new area of parish ministry.
Other adults interested in
teaching are welcome too.
Please email a note to or speak with one of the deacons.
Child care is offered
for younger children. Ushers can direct you to the child
care staff member. |
