The Reverend Dr.
Richard Warren Corney is a graduate of Lehigh University and
of The General Theological Seminary in New York City. In 1957
he was ordained deacon, then six months later, priest at the
Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
In 1970 he earned
the degree of Doctor of Theology from Union Theological Seminary
in New York.
In 1957 he became
a member of the faculty of The General Theological Seminary,
where he taught Old Testament and Hebrew until his retirement
at the end of 2000, at which time he was named Professor Emeritus.
He has contributed
articles and book reviews to various journals.
Since his retirement
he has been serving as an Assisting Priest here at St. John's
in the Village, as well as teaching courses in various institutions
in New York City and elsewhere. He has also remained an active
member of the Columbia University Faculty Seminar on the Hebrew
Bible.
He is an avid reader
of detective stories and military history. He is interested
in the theater and has enjoyed participating in productions
sponsored by the Arts Committee here at St. John's. He is
married, with four children and three grandchildren.
