CONCERT: CHRISTMAS EVE

24 Dec carol concert.png

TheThe New York City Rudolphus Choir & Soloists present a family-friendly concert of seasonal music both sacred and secular, with a special look at the role of animals in the Christmas story.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

In 1939 Robert May, who worked for the department store Montgomery Ward, was asked by the store to write a children's story for Christmas. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, with illustrations by Denver Gillen, was the result. Ten years later Ward's brother-in-law Johnny Marks, who lived just along the street from St John's, at W 11th St, created the song to the music we know and love today. Gene Autry, the 'singing cowboy', recorded the song and Rudolph went down in history!

A first-edition copy of the 1939 children's booklet will be on display at the Reception in Revelation Gallery

.Tickets $20 ($10 for students and armed forces personnel). Free to seniors and children, but registration is required.

BOOKING

Booking, both for free and for charging events, is chiefly via our website. A link within the event description will take you to online ticketing. In some cases online ticketing will not become available until a month or so before the event. Those who cannot access the internet are encouraged to ask friends or family for assistance and to book in that way. Tickets can, however, be purchased in cash on the door (except when an event has sold out).

SENIORS

St John’s is aware that many residents of Greenwich Village, particularly those on fixed incomes, find access to the arts a challenge. That is why St John’s events are typically economically priced or simply free. In our ‘Senior Standby’ scheme seats unsold at the time of the event can be given to seniors at the door free on a first-come first-served basis. This would typically be a few minutes before the event begins. There is no guarantee of admission.
