On Wednesday, 22 July, at 6:30 p.m., we honor the “prima testis” of Christ’s resurrection, the Apostle to the Apostles, and the first “testis divinae misericordiae” with Solemn Mass for the Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene.
The service features a liturgical reconstruction of Girolamo Frescobaldi’s seminal organ mass, Messa Della Domenica, from the 1635 collection Fiori Musicali. Generally acknowledged as one of Frescobaldi's greatest works, the Fiori influenced countless composers including Johann Sebastian Bach and Jean Langlais.
At the organ is Buck McDaniel, Artist-in-Residence of The General Theological Seminary. Light Italian fare will be served in St Benedict’s Courtyard following the liturgy (A $5 donation is recommended for attending the reception). All are welcome!
