The Annunciation of Our Lord to the Blessed Virgin Mary
6pm Sung Eucharist
Wednesday 25 March
The Feast of the Annunciation of Our Lord to the Blessed Virgin Mary is an ancient feast of the Church celebrating the Incarnation. Often falling in Lent it is sometimes called "Christmas in Lent". It was also, until quite recently, considered to be New Year's Day, both here in North America and throughout the world. (This began to change in the 1750s). The Feast has also been known as "Lady Day" in the English-speaking world.
Singers of the New York Gregorian Chant Project sing this liturgy, with a Gregorian mass setting, the minor propers of the feast, and other plainsong material.
Following the Eucharist a light supper (including Christmas pudding - with a nod to the Feast's nick-name) is served either in St Benedict's Courtyard or Revelation Gallery (depending on the weather).
Register here for catering purposes. If attending the Eucharist only and not staying on for supper there is no need to register.
